Google’s Rolls out Fuchsia OS to First-gen Nest Hub
According to recent reports, Google has successfully started to push out the silent upgrade to its Fuchsia OS (previously known as the Google Home Hub) on first-gen Nest Hub devices.
This means that this secretive project will be used by a broad range of consumers after years of opaque development.
Unlike Android, the OS isn’t based on Linux and uses a microkernel called Zircon. In a preview program, back in May, Google made its OS available to some enrolled devices.
Now, Google has confirmed the new firmware update for non-preview Nest Hub devices, including the Fuchsia upgrade, which means that all first-gen devices will be running Fuschia very soon.
If you think that Google has undertaken this whole project without any help, well you are wrong! Google is still working on its Fuchsia OS, and now it wants your help.
We have noticed that the devices that we have interacted with on an everyday basis are running on an entirely new operating system. But Google is possibly attempting to make this new experience as identical as possible.
For better or worse, even that performance on the first-gen Nest Hub appears to be very similar.
If you want to know, if your device has Fuchsia: you should check it in the “About device” section of the settings menu. However, even then the OS will not be mentioned by name.
That means that the Fuchsia deployment is not just as exciting as we had imagined when the project first started more than five years ago.
At the same time, Google has quite impressively managed to seamlessly replace the core software of a popular product in a way that users won’t ever notice.
