Motorola Edge 30 Software
Motorola is known for its near-stock Android feel and its Edge 30 is no exception. The Edge 30 is clean bloatware free with a near-stock android feel and the phone comes with Android 12 out of the box.
Being near-stock android with minimum bloat puts a lot less stress on RAM and on the processor which eventually increases the snappiness of the phone. Moto apps that are built-in provide access to themes, gestures, and visual adjustment, and also guide on how to use various features.
Design and Display of Motorola Edge 30
Motorola 30 Edge has a simple and minimalist design. Being the slimmest and lightest phone in the world, it has a thickness of 6.79 mm and weighs only 155g, and is available in two colors. Its streamlined design makes it comfortable for you to hold the phone in hand.
Speaking of its display, it is packed with a 2400X1080p 6.5-inch F-HD+ display that supports HDR10+ and has a 144Hz refresh rate, with an aspect ratio of 20:9. With a 10bit pOLED display, it can showcase up to 1 billion colors that makes it vibrant and colorful with a peak brightness of 500nits.
The display does not lag due to a higher refresh rate and works perfectly without lagging. However, it increases the battery drainage. For better battery life you can use the auto refresh rate, and for the fixed refresh rate, you have two options that are 60Hz and 144Hz. The 10-bit display offers a great experience of watching media content. Additionally, Edge 30’s Widevine L1 enables you to watch FHD+ content from all OTT platforms.
The front display is protected by corning gorilla glass 3, while the body and back are PMMA or Polymethyl Methacrylate (a plastic substitute for glass). With a triple camera setup and a glossy hosing, you can find Moto’s branding at the bottom with the symbol in the middle. The entire back of the phone is frosted. However, the camera housing pultrudes a little which makes it wobble on a flat surface.
On the front, you will also find a hole-punch on the top along with the selfie camera, and at the bottom, you can find the in-display fingerprint scanner. Interestingly, the Edge 30 is the first mid-range phone by Motorola to have an in-display fingerprint scanner.
Battery Life of Motorola Edge 30
Motorola Edge 30 comes with a 4020 mAh battery. With a charging speed of 33W that is included with the box, you can charge your smartphone super-fast with the Motorola turbo charger. That means your phone can go from having 0% to 50% in just 25 minutes! The battery percentage takes a little more than 60 minutes to become 100%.
However, being the slimmest smartphone in the world takes a blow on the battery life of the Edge 30. This is because 4020 mAh battery is not enough for today’s standard. Nevertheless, the Snapdragon 778+ comes to the rescue here by optimizing the battery consumption and thus, making the smartphone last a full day on light usage. In case of heavy usage, you might have to charge the phone twice a day. Although Motorola could have packed a bigger battery, the 6.8mm thickness, however, cannot house a bigger battery.
Camera of the Motorola Edge 30
Motorola Edge 30 houses a triple camera setup with
- a 50Mp main camera,
- a 50Mp Ultra-wide camera, and
- a 2Mp depth sensor.
The main camera also has optical image stabilization and can help you take some really good shots with natural color tones. The ultra-wide sensor captures decent images but where it shines is microphotography. And yes, the ultra-wide camera on Motorola Edge 30 doubles as a micro-lens as well. After a long time, Motorola has changed the camera app UI. As always, Moto’s camera app UI is simple and loaded with features to help you to capture awesome photos.
Speaking of the front camera, this phone has a 32Mp selfie camera. Thus, you can click great pictures with good contrasts under good lighting conditions. However, Edge 30’s selfie camera is sensitive to motion blur. Thus, in low lighting conditions, you will need a steady hand. Although the portrait mode is okay and captures good pictures, it struggles to distinguish between object and background.
Speaking of Motorola Edge 30’s video capturing qualities, you can shoot 4k videos at 30 fps, 1080p videos at 30/60/120 fps, and 720p videos at 960fps. Edge 30 also supports HDR10 with EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization).
