MDM software was originally designed to manage employee-owned devices on corporate networks for BYOD / CYOD (bring / carry your own device) or COPE (corporate owned / personally enabled) scenarios. And for that, it’s very good.

But as you might imagine, the same doesn’t apply in the other direction — MDM was never intended to be used to manage corporate owned devices (also known as dedicated devices or COSU devices), and as such, usually lacks the features required for managing enterprise devices like kiosks, point of sale systems, handheld scanners, digital signage, and more.
