Amazon Introduces Free Content Streaming with Fire TV FAST Channels
Amazon Fire TV is expanding its free content library with Fire TV FAST Channels. With it, users can access free, short-form content for free, and without any sign-ups. And as the acronym FAST suggests free, ad-supported TV, these channels will be monetized with advertisements. Amazon is reportedly planning to launch this streaming service on Fire TV this week, for its US audience. This announcement comes as a part of Amazon’s NewFronts presentation with Martha Stewart presenting the Fire TV Fast Channels.
More About the Fire TV FAST Channels
The platform will feature content from 400 providers with categories like Entertainment, News, Sports, Video Games, Music, Cooking, Travel, and much more. Amongst the 400 providers, some of the household names are ABC News, NHL, Xbox, FOX Sports, and America’s Test Kitchen.
If you don’t know where to start with all the channels, you can discover them from different categories. In those category pages, you can find hours of live and on-demand video content playlists. You can also check highlights straight from the Free tab on the Fire TV home screen. And just like other streaming platforms like Netflix, you can preview the show with one click.
Entering the Crowded FAST Streaming Industry
Getting free ad-supported content isn’t anything new at this point. With competitors like Roku, Google TV, and YouTube, Amazon needs something unique along with the basics. Launching with 400 channels is a great start, but its need to expand further and add more unique content.
Regardless, this was a no-brainer move for Amazon, as the 200 million global Fire TV devices have seen a 300% growth in viewing hours with the current version of Fire TV Channels. The Fire TV advertising, monetization, and engagement Director Charlotte Maines said, “With Fire TV Channels, we’re delivering a simple, category-based experience that makes it easy to discover what you want to watch while constantly expanding content offerings.”
In addition to Amazon’s Prime Video platform, FAST Fire TV Channels will position the company as an emerging leader in the streaming business.
