Microsoft to Stop Updating Windows 10 – Only Security Updates Till 2025
In a recent post, Microsoft confirmed that the latest 22H2 version of Windows 10 will be its last. The post also gave more information about the time frame for Windows 11’s Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) release.
Windows 10, launched in 2015 has been one of Microsoft’s best take on the OS. Unfortunately for the fans, the current version 22H2 will be the last one. As per the Windows 10 support lifecycle, the OS will keep getting monthly security updates till October 14, 2025.
Microsoft recommends users switch to Windows 11 now and continue getting an updated OS experience. If not, users should update to the latest 22H2 version of Windows 10.
Microsoft will release Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC and Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC in the second half of 2024; which is still over a year ahead.
User Backlash on the Discontinuation of Windows 10
Given the popularity of Windows 10, a majority of Windows users are upset with the discontinuation of Windows 10 updates. Users expected Microsoft to continue updating Windows 10 as its due date is still much further ahead. Or, at least till we get a more stable version of Windows 11.
Speaking of, most users are questioning Microsoft’s decision to (indirectly) force a switch to Windows 11 before it gets the LTSC version. Which should ideally solve a majority of the bugs that users keep facing.
Some users tried to highlight these problems in the comments for the same post about this news.
Among these relatively minor issues, Microsoft is also in the midst of another controversy with Twitter’s removal from its social media management tool DMC.
Regardless, we expect the Windows maker to sail past these issues and work toward a better Windows 11 OS.
