Facebook Removes Account of Kenosha Guard Following Last Night’s Events in Wisconsin

Facebook has removed the account of Kenosha Guard, a local self-declared militia, following the last night’s events that unfolded in Kenosha.

In the event, two people were killed and one injured when a man began firing on a group protesting Jacob Blake’s police shooting. On Wednesday, Rittenhouse, the man believed to be firing, was arrested in Antioch, Illinois. He was charged with first-degree intentional homicide.

A series of videos have come to light from the night where law enforcement officers at the protest are having conversations with men carrying guns.

A Facebook account called Kenosha Guard, prior to the event, published an event to gather “armed citizens to protect our lives and property.”

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, a post form now removed account attempted to rally “patriots willing to take up arms and defend [our] City tonight from the evil thugs.”

The night before the shooting took place, two different Facebook users reported the Kenosha Guard account. But, Facebook determined the event and account were not violating its policies in both cases, the Verge reported.

A Facebook spokesperson said, “At this time, we have not found evidence on Facebook that suggests the shooter followed the Kenosha Guard Page or that he was invited on the Event Page they organized.” Adding “However, the Kenosha Guard Page and their Event Page violated our new policy addressing militia organizations and have been removed on that basis.”

Currently, the company is monitoring for content praising the shooting and has a plan to it for inciting serious violence.
