Google Meet To Getting Virtual Backgrounds on iOS 

Google Meet has finally announced that they have a new update waiting for the platform on iOS. After this update, Meeting will have a virtual background to provide personal space to users.    

The search engine giant revealed that the iOS users of its video conferencing platforms will be able to blur or replace the background with an image. They will be able to choose from Google’s hand-picked images, including landscapes, office spaces, and abstract backgrounds. Users can even use their own images.   

In a blog post, Google said, while announcing the update, “Custom backgrounds can help you show more of your personality, as well as help hide your surroundings.”    

The feature is available to all iOS users now, including all Google Workspace, G Suite Basic, and Business customers, and even users with personal Google Accounts.  

The feature will be turned off by default for end-users, meaning you’ll need to contact your Google Workspace admin to toggle it on. Users will need iOS 12 or above to run the feature.

Users will need to tap the Effects button on the self-view screen displayed to turn the feature on before joining any call on Meets.   

Users can also select from several different styles and filters, and they can even remove effects whenever they want.  

However, Google has already warned that changing background may increase battery usage.  

Google added the ability to use custom backgrounds on the video conferencing platform in October 2020 to keep pace with its rivals. But, users were only able to select from three backgrounds.
